It’s not all that new.
My first boss ever, Lenny Higgins of Higgins Ice Cream, always said ‘Take and Fill a #10 tin with hot soapy water and clean the…”
Lenny had it almost right. The task is very clear, “Clean the…” all the rest are ‘To-Do’s’ which are part of the task. There was no question [...]

We took our own advice…and fired the landlord this week
A few weeks ago, we sent out an AppingoJim news story entitled Publisher Fires Landlord (and also wrote a blog post). It was a fun, tongue-in-cheek article that was based on an Appingo client that wanted to dump their expensive office space and bring the company fully virtual. They were excited that Appingo that was [...]

By AppingoJim, staff
NEW YORK, NY — Publishing executives are showing signs of warming up to this whole “Internet thing.”

More Life, More Projects, Less Hassle
And you may ask yourself-well…how did I get here?
—Talking Heads
We’ve all had those moments.
I worked for a children’s book publisher, I went early so I could shuffle pages in 20 inboxes of editors and designers alike. I’d prioritize their day based on tracking/ circulation sheet deadlines. I printed “circ sheets” on colored paper to determine [...]

Publishers Debt Dilema
The picture looks pretty gray.
There’s a ton of pressure on publishers today. Sales are down, the internet is re-structuring the what information is gathered, managed and and distributed. Outsourcing doesn’t work as well as it does in pure manufactured products. What to do?

Technically, he was close, but I never felt that I knew him. Smarter, better educated, just plain better. He was always unattainable.

I Love the South Waltham Post Office
I know that’s hard to believe. Nobody loves the Post Office.
But I love the South Waltham Post Office. They work hard, have a great attitude, and man, the delivery is outstandingly fast!

Dave ‘The Mighty Sailor’
I like to sail at Piers Park Sailing Center in East Boston. Piers Park Sailing Center is all about access to sailing, and to Boston Harbor, and to a positive and empowering environment.
Yesterday I got to sail with Dave ‘The Mighty Sailor’. Dave is a quadriplegic. When Dave is the skipper, I run the sails. [...]

On The Road
I was ‘On The Road’ yesterday. Not like the commuters, or like the Ford Taurus sales guys, or even like the buses of Korean tourists. No, I was a ‘Log-haulin, high-ballin’ hillbilly truck-drivin-man. I had my coffee, and my iPod, and I was drivin’.
It was fun. It’s been a long time since I’ve been out [...]

Sssshhhh
Oh, It was a beautiful day. One of those first days of summer before it’s too hot, before the grass gets brown, before the South West wind brings humid gray skies.
A short ride brought us to a ‘Corporate’ conference room.
‘DO NOT CONNECT VENDOR LAPTOPS’
That’s what the sign said near the jack on the wall. ‘IT’ [...]
